Chinese Polearms


The Chinese spear is called the Qiang. Common features of the Qiang are the leaf shaped blade and red horse-hair tassle between the blade and the pole. The tassle aids in blurring the vision of the opponent so that it is more difficult for them to grab or parry the spear. The tassle was also used to stop the flow of blood from the blade getting to the wooden shaft. 7 foot long spears were used by infantry, and cavalry used longer spears of 13 feet.
